Ready for Your Next Leadership Challenge? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated senior sister / charge nurse to join Ward J89, a specialist haematology ward within Leeds Cancer Centre, one of the largest and most respected providers of specialist cancer services in the UK.

About Ward J89

Ward J89 is a dedicated 20-bed specialist haematology ward, providing expert care for patients with a wide range of haematological conditions and complex treatment needs. As part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering outstanding patient care while leading and developing an exceptional nursing workforce.

The Role

As Senior Sister / Charge Nurse, you will be at the heart of ward leadership, combining clinical expertise with operational management to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care.

You will:

  • Provide visible, inspirational clinical and managerial leadership to the nursing team.
  • Lead by example, creating a positive culture that promotes professionalism, compassion, and excellence.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care and an exceptional patient experience.
  • Support, coach, and develop staff to achieve their full potential.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes.
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives, audit activity, and service development.
  • Oversee the operational, financial, and administrative management of the ward.
  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement within the service.

About You

What you will bring to the role

The successful candidate will carry 24-hour continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of Ward J89, a 20-bedded haematology ward, and provide professional, clinical, and managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing team. The jobholder is responsible for developing and maintaining a ward's or department’s philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate, safe and quality care delivery. Through managing the administrative and financial aspects of the ward, the jobholder will ensure cost-effective use of resources.

As a band 7 senior sister, the successful candidate will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice, developing the nursing team and ensuring effective management of the ward/department.

Successful candidates will be offered the opportunity to develop their leadership and management skills as well as clinical skills specific to this area with a structured development programme.
