Ready for Your Next Leadership Challenge? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated senior sister / charge nurse to join Ward J89, a specialist haematology ward within Leeds Cancer Centre, one of the largest and most respected providers of specialist cancer services in the UK.
About Ward J89
Ward J89 is a dedicated 20-bed specialist haematology ward, providing expert care for patients with a wide range of haematological conditions and complex treatment needs. As part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering outstanding patient care while leading and developing an exceptional nursing workforce.
The Role
As Senior Sister / Charge Nurse, you will be at the heart of ward leadership, combining clinical expertise with operational management to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care.
You will:
- Provide visible, inspirational clinical and managerial leadership to the nursing team.
- Lead by example, creating a positive culture that promotes professionalism, compassion, and excellence.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care and an exceptional patient experience.
- Support, coach, and develop staff to achieve their full potential.
- Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes.
- Drive quality improvement initiatives, audit activity, and service development.
- Oversee the operational, financial, and administrative management of the ward.
- Champion innovation and continuous improvement within the service.
About You
We are looking for an experienced nurse who can bring energy, vision, and leadership to this key role.
You will have:

- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-working abilities.
- Experience of service improvement, quality assurance, and clinical governance.
- Relevant specialist qualifications or evidence of ongoing professional development.

What you will bring to the role
The successful candidate will carry 24-hour continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of Ward J89, a 20-bedded haematology ward, and provide professional, clinical, and managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing team. The jobholder is responsible for developing and maintaining a ward's or department’s philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate, safe and quality care delivery. Through managing the administrative and financial aspects of the ward, the jobholder will ensure cost-effective use of resources. As a band 7 senior sister, the successful candidate will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice, developing the nursing team and ensuring effective management of the ward/department. Successful candidates will be offered the opportunity to develop their leadership and management skills as well as clinical skills specific to this area with a structured development programme. |
